War between two communities have killed at least 12 people and destroyed property worth millions of Naira at Ndiagu Orie, Umugudu Akpu Ngbo community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
But the state police command confirmed only seven deaths in the attack.
Three of the deceased, among them, mother of a journalist in the state, Eugene Ebenyi, were beheaded.
Pauline Nwaneri, an Ebony State Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) correspondent attached to the wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Rachael Umahi, lost four members of her family to the attack.
The four slain family members were buried immediately.
The attack was said to have been carried out by the Agila people of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack may not be unconnected with the disappearance of a naval officer who went missing two weeks ago at Ngbo where he was last seen.
Ngbo and its neighbouring Agila have been at war for many decades over boundary matters.
A resident of the area, Eze Ituma, expressed shock that despite heavy security presence in the area, the Agila people carried out the attack unstopped.
The state Commissioner of Police, Awosola Awotinde, said seven people were killed in the invasion.
He announced that a team of mobile policemen have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and called on the people to remain calm.
