BREAKING: Colonel, 2 soldiers die as Nigerian troops, bandits battle in Katsina

The Nigerian military has lost one senior military officer (reportedly a Colonel) and two soldiers. Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, said this in a statement made available on Friday. He recalled that on Thursday, troops on a clearance operation against criminals across the North-West zone got information on bandits’ attack in Unguwar Doka village, Faskari LGA of Kastina State. Nnamdi Kanu reveals how Buhari allegedly plots to islamize Nigeria

Nnamdi Kanu, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of alleged plot to Islamize Nigeria. Kanu alleged that Buhari was plotting to use nepotism and Islamic terror to Islamize Nigeria. He made the allegation in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle. The IPOB leader explained that the alleged Islamization move was responsible for the nepotism in the appointment of Nigeria’s security forces. Kanu tweeted: “The nepotism by @NGRPresident and the ISLAMIC terror sweeping #Nigeria are part of a secret plot to Islamize Nigeria. “It’s not by accident that Nigeria’s security forces are led by extremist Fulani Islamists in uniform. If Northern Christians are cowed, the South can stop it.”

Herders behead 5, injure many in Benue

Five persons have been reportedly beheaded by unknown gunmen suspected to be herders at Tse-Apera Village, Nzorov district of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. According to a villager identified as Terwase, the gunmen who stormed the village at about 5.am on Sunday also left many people injured. Mali: Ex-Defense minister N’Daou named transition President, coup leader, Goita, VP

Ba N’Daou, Mali’s former Defence Minister, has been named as President of the transition government. Coup leader, Colonel Assimi Goita, has been appointed Vice President. The state television made the announcement on Monday. N’Daou will be in office until the election of a new civilian government. Goita heads the National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP). He led soldiers to remove President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on August 18. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had warned the military to appoint a civilian leader or face additional sanctions. ECOWAS had imposed border closure on Mali. The regional body also suspended financial flows in the country.

The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram are taking advantage of poverty in North-East Nigeria, to recruit new members. Akufo-Addo stated this on Monday, while on a working visit to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission in Abuja. According to him, the insurgents were also making inroads in the Lake Chad Basin, Mali and the Greater Sahel. “This is most worrying, because surrogates of Al-Qaeda in the Sahel and Boko Haram militants operating around the Lake Chad Basin, the two most active terrorist groups in West Africa, are exploiting the unacceptable levels of poverty in these areas, in the recruitment and indoctrination of youth,” Akufo-Addo said.
