According to message contained in a press statement sent to OHAFIA-TV News by the President General (Worldwide) of Okon-Aku Development Union, ODU. The sons and daughters of the “A” Community of Ohafia Clan in Diaspora have put smile on the faces of their people at home through a pragmatic and collective effort that culminated to sending home, palliatives worth over a million.
According to the President General, Dr Umeh Kalu Nmecha, “The Okon-Aku Development Union, USA, in response to the COVID-19 lockdown, have donated food stuff worth N1.6 million to support the twenty-six compounds of Okon-Aku Autonomous Community in Ohafia Local Government Area.
“The President of the Association, Engr. Okpo Ekea Ajughu, in presenting the palliative, praised God for sustaining the community in the face of the ravaging challenges of COVID-19. He equally thanked members of the Union for their generous donations in support of their kinsmen at Okon-Aku Community. Engr. O. E. Ajughu prayed God to bless all Umu Okon bini n’America and the entire Ohafia Udumeze”.
Recall that not long ago, OHAFIA-TV News reported that the leadership of Okon-Aku Development Union, ODU, under the care of Dr Umeh Kalu Nmecha, reactivated the principle of self-help by mobilizing the community sons and daughters to exercise the civic duty of thinking and investing for everyone as a community.
This was in effort to augment what individuals from the community had done to compliment the government palliative. as a measure to ensure that the people are supported as long as the global challenge persists.
This actions of the Diaspora citizens of Okon-Aku have reaffirmed the age-long culture of moving Ohafia forward through communal self help.
