Police Extra-Judicial Killing: NYCN Makes Case For Slain Ohafia Youth

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ohafia Chapter have expressed their total disappointment and anger over the killing of an Ohafia youth (Mr Ifeanyi Arunsi) by a police man attached to the Area Command Police Ohafia.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the Traditional Ruler of Ebem Oha Autonomous community, HRH Elder S. A. Okorie (Ujurueze Ebem Oha) at his Palace in Ebem Ohafia, the leaders of the NYCN Ohafia condoled with the people of Ebem Ohafia over the killing of the bright and promising young boy by a trigger happy Police Officer.

The Leader of the delegation, Comrade Orji Onuoha (Chairman of NYCN Ohafia) and a state representative, Comrade Chidiebere Uwagwu Kalu both thanked the Traditional Ruler for his effort towards ensuring that peace was returned in the community.

They also thanked others who collaborated with the traditional ruler in calming down the angry youths who went on rampage destroying some government properties in retaliation.

In his response, the Traditional Ruler of Ebem Oha kingdom thanked the youth leaders for their own contributions in calming the nerves of their fellow youths while the protest lasted.

The delegation later visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them where they met the uncle to the deceased who poured out his emotions on the sight of the youths.

According to him, the visit of NYCN which is the umbrella body of all the youths organization in the country and others has made them know that the family is not alone in their time of grief.

Responding, the Chairman of NYCN Ohafia Chapter, Comrade Orji Onuoha promised the family that his group will definitely work with the state government to make sure that the family gets justice.

Rounding up their visit to Ohafia, the delegates paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Abia state, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu at the Government House Lodge Umuahia.

The State Representative of NYCN, Comrade Chidiebere Uwagwu Kalu and the NYCN Chairman of Ohafia, Comrade Orji Onuoha both thanked the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for all his efforts in ensuring that justice is served and as well being vocal in the condemnation of Police extra judicial killings in the state.

They used the opportunity to urge the state government not to relent in making sure that the police man involved in the killing gets the adequate punishment which his offence deserves to serve as a deterrent to other men on uniform within the state.

In his response the Deputy Governor thanked the NYCN Ohafia Chapter for rising to the occasion in preventing further excavation of the protest by the angry youths.

He assured that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in the state will leave no stone unturned in making sure that the family of the slain youth gets justice.

He enjoined the youths of Ohafia LGA to remain law abiding and as well maintain peace with security agencies in their localities as everything is now under control.

The NYCN Secretary Ohafia Chapter, Comrade Emeka Mannic Okorie, Comrade Emma Okorie NYCN Ex Officio, Comrade Ikechukwu Otuu, Mr Uka Kalu, Ebem Ohafia Youths Association President, Hon. Kalu Bassy, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths Mobilization were all present during the visits.
