The level of levity and less concern with which the Southeast Governors are handling the security issue of Nigeria is worrisome and a trend that should give sleepless night to every leaders of Southeast extract because the security of lives and properties of the Igbo people who are mostly businessmen and women should be paramount in the agenda of any chief security of his state.

In a press statement signed by Comr Amos Kalu, his media and publicity aide, Chief Dr Emeka Kalu who is the Director of Protocols PDP Youth Alliance and Global Initiative for good Governance (GIGG), lamented that the Southeast Governors seems to be playing a script to please certain individuals who may not even have the interest of Ndigbo at heart and warns that any negative incidence in the region will be blamed on them as the elected security chiefs of the region.

Citing examples, Chief Kalu said we have passed stage when we as Nigerians pretend all is well when we know the truth is the contrary. Nigeria is not what is used to be and security has been concentrated in the hands of a particular region and therefore this is not a time to play game of political correctness in moment of staggering evidence that a particular section with the support of stage machinaries are hell bent on intimidating, maiming, killing and subjugating of every other Nigerians. The times are different and different approach is required.

“I am pained by the lack of unity of purpose of the Southeast Governors who uptill this moment could not resolve to create Southeast regional security outfit when their Southwest counterparts went through it like a walk in the park due to unity of purpose, shelving every partisanship for the good and security of their people, I expect Southeast Governors to do same and timely too.

“I call on the leader of Southeast Governors Forum, Engr Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state to take the right action and start Southeast regional security outfit as Community policing is not an option for the state for which Nigeria is presently in.

“The shooting and lose of lives in Okigwe, Imo State, the rumoured herdsmen attack in Ahiazu Mbaise penultimate week, the revelation by Ohaneze Ndigbo president, Chief Nnia Nwodo of AK47 toting Fulani Youths parading in Amambra unchallenged by Police and backed by Miyetti Allah is a sign that the Southeast Governors are playing with fire that may consume her citizens if not properly managed” Kalu said.

He further warned that Nigeria is now at a crossroads when every region think about the protection of lives and properties of their people as exemplified in the formation of Amotekun with one voice, coupled with already existing regional security outfit scattered in the North, saying that for the South East to be aloof and moping, trying to appease Northern interest by trying to appear politically correct at the expense of their people is unacceptable.
